God created the world and everything in it. We live in a world that is constantly changing. At times it may seem like everything moves beyond our control. Knowing that God - the same God that made the earth and everything in it - is there is tremendous comfort. You see, God is not an almighty, power wielding force of that controls us like puppets. He views us as his children, and he treats us like a good father treats his children.
We All Make Mistakes
When the world was new, just after creation, it was a perfect paradise designed by God for his children. Unfortunately, like most children, we had a will of our own and disobeyed God's rules. This was when sin entered the world. Sin is anything that goes against God's rules. None of us is perfect - we all make mistakes and break God's rules. The Bible says, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God..." (
Romans 3:23). This is a really important point! All of us has sinned and broken God's rules. No human being is perfect. Sadly, many people believe that Christians think that they are perfect. In fact, there have probably been times that Christians treated others like they weren't as good as they were. People who act like this actually help to prove this point - everyone has sinned!
The Price of Sin
The fact that everyone has sinned creates a problem. God cannot tolerate sin. Sin cannot exist in the presence of God. Therefore, anyone who has sinned cannot enter the presence of God in Heaven. The Bible says, "The wages of sin is death..." (
Romans 6:23a). Now, this doesn't mean that if you sin, you will die. You see, God wants all of his children with him forever. Once the body dies, the soul continues to live on forever. God desires that everyone will live with him forever in Heaven. When the Bible says that the price of sin is death, it means that the soul will continue to live forever AWAY from God. The bible describes this place that is AWAY from God as Hell. Now the problem becomes clear - if God cannot have sin in Heaven, and all of us have sinned, then everyone would spend eternity away from God in Hell. So, God created a
solution to this problem!
The Solution
God created a way to remove the stain of sin from everyone that wanted it. We believe that God exists in three forms, much like water. Water is a liquid that provides so much to us. If you freeze water, it becomes ice. If you heat water, it turns into vapor. Even though these three things are different, they are still all the same thing. We believe that God exists in a similar way. The three forms of God are the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Even though these are three different forms, they are still all God. God the Father, who was looking down from Heaven at his children on Earth knew that he needed to create a solution to this Sin problem. So, he decided to send his Son, Jesus, to earth to be born as a human. The Bible says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (
John 3:16). If you recall, the Bible already said that the price of sin was death. So, in order to pay off the debt of sin that everyone owed, Jesus died on the Cross. Since Jesus committed no sin and was perfect, he was the only one who could pay off this eternal bill. Then, three days after he died for our sins, he rose again and went back to Heaven where he sits with God on his throne.
Paid In Full
Now the debt has been paid. Jesus died and rose again so that all of our sins could be forgiven. The question you might be asking is, "What do I have to do?" The answer is simpler that you might think. Jesus died for EVERYONE - every human being on the planet. He died so that God could spend eternity with his children. This act was a gift, given by God through his son, Jesus. If you want this gift, all you have to do is take it. The bible says, "The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (
Romans 6:23b). If you want this gift that saves you from the penalty of sin, all you have to do is believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that he died for the forgiveness of your sins. The bible says, "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (
